Mayor of Nokomis Holiday Message-
Good day, Mayor Mark here wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
As 2025 comes to a close, we have much to be thankful for and to celebrate as we settle into a warm and cozy Holiday season.
If you were traveling West out of town over the spring and summer, you most likely would have seen the large earth moving equipment expanding our new Lagoon. We're happy to let everyone know the project was completed under budget and has made a vast improvement to our Lagoon system. The expansion allows the community to expand water and sewer mains to new areas to build new housing. It also provides the community the means to meet the needs of a new total population of 583 residents! In today's day and age, having the required capacity for wastewater is essential if the community means to grow. Together, we've worked hard to make a series of long-term investments in our core-services that will help support Nokomis well into the future.
The Town has also been blown away by the progress made on the fundraiser for the replacement of our X-ray Machine. We are currently at $504,000! This is nearly 75% of our goal in a little over 10 full months of fundraising! The fundraiser has received support from personal donations, donations from the business community and from our Municipal partners. These contributions to this keystone investment in our regional primary health care facility is critical in meeting the needs of a growing community and region!
I would like to thank the Nokomis Health Foundation, volunteers, partners and all of you good people throughout the region for making such a huge effort! Without the support of the community, associations and businesses we would be unable to achieve our goals! If it is a concern to you, we have been assured by the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) that all funds raised will be kept by the Nokomis Health Foundation. The SHA will invoice the Foundation for work completed as the replacement project gets underway!
As we push through to the final fundraising goal of $690,000, we are continuing to seek funding support from corporate funders, individuals and business donations to reach our goal! These efforts will culminate on February 7th with the Sleddin' for X-rays Wrap-up Rally! This day and evening event will host a snowmobile rally and silent auction during the day and host a supper, live auction and entertainment into the evening.
In between 2, 60 min sets of music by The Great Fuss (Saskatoon), we will be hosing the 1st ever Nokomis Karaoke Star! We are seeking 10 brave individuals who would collect pledges and compete to be the first-ever Nokomis Karaoke Star! I will put my name in the hat to begin the fun! Potential Stars will be asked to collect pledges and all pledges raised will be put into a pot where 20% will be awarded to the lucky winner and 80% will go into our continued fundraising efforts!
